NTU scholarships for 2010 Summer Program on Biodiversity, Agriculture and Culture of Taiwan
SEARCA is pleased to announce the availability of two partial slots of scholarships offered by the National Taiwan University (NTU) for Southeast Asian students to attend the 2010 Summer Program on Biodiversity, Agriculture, and Culture of Taiwan from June 28 to July 24, 2010. The scholarships valued at US$2,000 per slot will cover accommodation, two-thirds of meals, local travel expenses and insurance within Taiwan, books, course materials, T-shirt, bag and other souvenirs. The scholars will be selected on the basis of the following among other factors: potential and immediate impact of the learning from the program on the student's study program and career; and a background on biology. read>>
Visayas State University vegetable production project supports scholarships for agriculture students
A vegetable production project initiated by the Visayas State
University (VSU) in Baybay, Leyte, Philippines in collaboration with
the East-West Seed Philippines (EWPH) has become a source of income to
support the studies of four senior VSU agriculture students. Mr. Ric M.
Reyes revealed this in his article published in the "Usapang Gulayan,"
a newsletter published by the East-West Seed Company, Inc. for
employees and friends in the Philippines. Through the project, titled
"Utanon sa Kaugmaon" (meaning, Vegetables for the Future), the EWPH not
only provided technical assistance, seeds and inputs, but also trained
the students on the modern technologies of growing high-value
vegetables. The project also hopes that the skills gained by the
scholars will give them more confidence to pursue agribusiness ventures

Scholarship Available for Dissertation Doctorate Program for School Year 2010-2011
The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in
Agriculture (SEARCA) is pleased to announce the availability of one
slot of scholarship in school year 2010-2011 for a three-year graduate
program leading to a Dissertation Doctorate Degree at the Tokyo
University of Agriculture, Japan. The scholarship is available only to
any highly qualified national of the regular member countries of the
Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) namely:
Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the

Tokyo, Japan - Dr. Toshiro Matsuda, President of the Tokyo University
of Agriculture Educational Corporation received the Royal Thai
Decoration on 12 November 2009 at Tokyo University of Agriculture,
Tokyo, Japan. The Royal Thai Decoration was granted to Dr. Matsuda in
honor and recognition of his contribution to the advancement of

ASEA-UNINET PhD and post-doctoral grants open for Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam
The ASEAN-European Academic University Network (ASEA-UNINET) has
launched the "Science and Technology Grants for Southeast Asia," under
the Scholarships of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science
and Culture through the Austrian Council for Science and Technology
Development. The grant is also administered in co-operation with the
Ministry for University Affairs in Thailand and the Department for
Higher Education (DIKTI) of the Ministry for Education and Culture of

Shimane University opens the graduate course in earth science and geoenvironmental science for international students
The Interdisciplinary
Graduate School of Science and Engineering of Shimane University in
Matsue, Japan opens its special program for international students. The
two-year program is a graduate course in earth science and
geoenvironmental science. The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture,
Sports, Science and Technology will offer scholarships to international
students who wish to study in this program of Shimane University. The
scholarship will be granted by the Japanese government from October
2010 to September 2012. A total of three students will be accepted in
