Tokyo University of Agriculture Hosts Conference on Agriculture and Information Technology

The International Association of Agricultural Information Specialists (IAALD), together with Asian Federation of Information Technologists in Agriculture (AFITA) and World Congress on Computers in Agriculture (WCCA), will be co-organizing the World Conference on Agricultural Information and IT on August 24-27, 2008 at the Atsagi Campus of the Tokyo University of Agriculture on the theme, "Advancing information and communication management, knowledge creation and sharing, and the application of information technologies in agriculture."

This conference will bring together participants of different backgrounds and expertise, including agriculture and information technology, information specialists, researchers, educators, policy-makers, and others who will share and discuss recent advances in IT that are needed to address shifts in the agricultural production and trade, as well as the concerns for sustainable rural livelihoods.  The participants would also discuss some issues related to policy and information dissemination.

The topics expected to be covered are the information technologies, information knowledge and communication activities related to the applied life sciences, which includes agriculture, agricultural production and marketing, natural resources, fish and wildlife, environment, extension, communication, and education.
