Preparations are underway for the 17th biennial convention of the Asian Association of Agricultural Colleges and Universities (AAACU) to be held at Manila Hotel, the Philippines on 23-25 October 2008.  The convention will tackle the theme, “Harmonizing BSA curriculum among universities in Asia.”  The theme aptly addresses the need for more relevance of the agriculture curriculum to market trends and globalization.  Among the concerns to be discussed during the convention is the institutionalization of an active student exchange and cross-internship program among member institutions in AAACU.

The main sponsor of the convention is the AAACU.  The AAACU Secretariat headed by Dr. Candida B. Adalla, former dean of the College of Agriculture of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) and professor of Entomology has been busy seeking co-sponsorship for the activity.  So far, the following co-sponsors have expressed commitment:  the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), and Cavite State University.  Interested agencies and institutions are invited to co-sponsor the activity and may contact the AAACU Secretariat at aydsadalla@yahoo.com or telephone (63-49) 536-5331. Donations in cash and in kind are welcome.
