UGM Celebrates 2009 Earth Day on Environmental Awareness

The Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia celebrated Earth Day on April 22, 2009 with the theme of Environmental Awareness. The purpose of the event was to increase the awareness of young people and the public on the environment and how to save it for the future.
The Student Association of the Forestry Faculty also set up a series of activities which ran from April 4 to May 2, namely: a) the Forestry Leadership Transition for the Earth Presentation Program; b) a Seedling Workshop; c). Environmental Education Orientation for High School Students; d) Orientation and Cleaning Activity in Malioboro; e) National Seminar on Forestry Leadership Transition for the Future; f) Environmentally Friendly Village’s Products Parade; g) Monitoring of Pine Tree Planting at Ambal; h) Seminar on The Role of Environment-concerned Moslems in the Environment Restoration; i) Local Industry Workshop; j) Environmental Education for Elementary School Students; and k) tree planting and environmental study on Environment in AL-Quran, which served as the closing activity of the four-week program.
