The National Taiwan University (NTU) in Taipei, Taiwan recently launched the NTU Global Lounge during the opening ceremony of the university’s 2009 International Week. Foreign and domestic dignitaries who were welcomed by the National Taiwan University President Dr. Si-chen Lee attended the launching ceremony.
One of the objectives of the Global Lounge is to develop and strengthen the foreign students' ability to adapt to the local environment of Taiwan and to help the local students broaden their international perspectives. The Global Lounge employs working students who can speak English fluently to provide advisory services on campus living and studying abroad. It establishes student management teams to assist in activity planning, in regulating rules and providing services and management of websites. Like the various student clubs such as the Foreign Students Association, the International Students Information Service Club, the Burmese Student Association, the International Youth Federation, the International Affairs Society, the Study Group for Mixing Drinks, the Coffee Culture Study Group, Global Lounge shall provide a platform for cultural exchange wherein foreign and local students can interact with one another freely. Cultural artifacts from different countries are displayed at the Lounge hall, together with information of NTU's sister school and the foreign students' home countries.
